The Phoenix Rising? Gateway Presentation TONIGHT

Here's a chance to do some good for the entire borough. Come on out TONIGHT! and support the Gateway project. The DRJTBA will sell the needed land to the Morrisville EDC, so Dan Jones can make his long awaited official presentation.

Please come on out and support Dan Jones; Penn Jersey Realty; the Gateway Center; and/or Morrisville. All of them are deserving of your support.

Hi Everyone,

Many of you may be aware that Dan has been working very hard for the last 2 years to get past lots of Morrisville red tape so that he and his partners can build an office building (The Gateway Center) at the foot of the Trenton Makes Bridge. Dan really believes in this project and knows that a structure of this sort in Morrisville would bring good tax relief to the residents and much needed customers to the businesses of Morrisville. This Tuesday evening at 7:30 in the Morrisville Borough Hall Dan will make yet another presentation to the Council. He would LOVE to be able to show community support for this project. So, if any of you who have an interest in the future of Morrisville could attend this meeting Tuesday night it would put a big smile on Dan's face and make a difficult job much easier. The presentation should begin right at 7:30 and take about an hour.

Thanks so much!
Jennifer Jones

Did anyone stick around and watch Sharon Hughes slander Dan Jones and George Bolos? I really think that she crossed the line. I hear that Jon Gould knows a good lawyer who specializes in defamation suits.

I also don't understand anyone who references the new school in connection with this project. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

I saw it on TV. I loved George's response to her, an appropriately laconic statement to the effect of she's wrong, he has worked hard and been honest and forthright in his actions on Council, the EDC, etc., there's no hidden dark side to the Gateway Project deal, and life will go on for him and his family with or without her comments. I was sad to hear that he and his family may be leaving Morrisville so his wife can pursue her teaching career.

On TV, it seemed like there was lots of applause and overwhelming support for the Gateway Project at the meeting. It happened before my time, but I'm hoping that we're at a time in Morrisville history not unlike 1954, when commie-baiting Senator Joseph McCarthy's bullying and unfounded accusations were finally exposed to the American public at large, thus beginning his downfall. So in that sense, I guess I too wish it was 1954 in Morrisville again.

I'm feel for Sharon, she must be so miserable in her life that she has to take jabs at the way others live theirs!
The Revenge of the Nerds is a risin!

There seemed to be some discussion at the end of the meeting regarding whether or not the council can grant the permission Dan Jones wanted. Can anyone clarify that?

Morris,

As far as I can tell, Dan Jones seems to be looking for some indication of support for the project from council, so he doesn't needlessly spend more money on the project if it ends up getting disapproved by council. And it does seem up in the air about where council members stand on it. His actions are understandable - any smart businessperson wants to have a good sense of business risks and try to minimize them if possible.

I'm not an expert, but my take on it is that he's seeking something council is unable, unwilling, or not obligated to provide. Council must act (give an up or down vote) on land development plans, though. My advice would be to:

1. Do as much due diligence as he thinks is necessary from what he's heard so far;
2. File proper land development plans with as many "t's" crossed and lower case "j's" dotted as possible;
3. Hire a good land use consultant and a good lawyer; and
4. Forge ahead - or walk away.

Politics being what they are in Morrisville, this seems about the best he's gonna get, and he'll have to assess the level of business risk this entails. I hope I'm wrong and he gets some sort of "warm fuzzy feeling" vote from council. I wish him much luck - many a good person would have walked away from this major investment and the vocal "can't do" element here a long time ago.
