Economics 101: Supply and Demand

Here's an idea from an emailer. What do you think?

I have driven past several businesses in Morrisville that are displaying their red "Stay on Track" campaign signs and was wondering if you could start a new thread on the blog where we can keep track of which businesses they are. I am not asking for a boycott, but I am personally interested in knowing which business owners in my town reject my kids' education. Then, with this knowledge I can decide which businesses I will continue to support and which I will not.

To date, I have seen the red signs in front of:

* Hellmann, CPA (of course)
* The Squirrels Nest
* A-Z Music

Anyone see any others? Please post them here.

Added April 29 4:30 P.M. I received an email suggestion that these "Stay on Track" sign sightings should be photographed. I received photos from Hellmann, Squirrels Nest, Colonial Hair, and A-Z Music. Do NOT photograph or report residences. I have removed one reported sighting and the comment for a private residence.

Great idea!!I'll be looking!I'm all for supporting local business, but will think before supporting businesses that support Hellman & co.

I can understand "The Squirrel's Nest". Jim Murray (cronie of Ms. Myhok) and many old time school curmudgeons graze there (they might even have a Burger named after a former council president on the menu).

But I don't understand A-Z music. Their biggest competition in PA would be Pro-Line which almost has an exclusive hold on Pennsburry students. That leaves Morrisville students for A-Z. If the school folds, or even if they drop their music program, A-Z could suffer greatly.

And I've already boycotted Hellmann CPA, but only because I want to invest in Morrisville, and they recommend against that.

I also want to support local businesses but am willing to be selective about where I get my cigarettes (I don't smoke) or manicure (nah) based on whether they support (or don't) our kids.

While I understand that businesses have to watch their bottom line I find it curious that any business owner would post anything that might hurt that bottom line. Why not keep it to yourself and express your views in the voting booth? And while I fully support their right to have an opinion, I will use my rights as a consumer to shop elsewhere.

I'm a little disappointed about A-Z...

I went to the Squirrel's Nest a few times, but stopped going there because the service was iffy, I always felt an unfriendly "you're not from around here, are you?" vibe (I guess not, I live WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over on the other side of this metropolis), and Ben's Deli is just as good and cheaper.

Plus, is there still smoking there, or did the laws change? It always seemed smoky when I was there. I don't begrudge smokers their smokes, but I don't necessarily want to be enveloped in cigarette smoke, especially when eating.

Pro-Line has a hold on Morrisville Students. That's where the Band Director recommends, and they give the kids a discount for mentioning his name.

I was just out for a bike ride on this beautiful day, and noticed that Colonial Haircutters on bridge st has a stay on track sign also. They are right next to hellman's office.

One time, I went into a restaurant. The menu said ‘Breakfast Any Time’. So I ordered French toast during the Renaissance.”

Can Colonial Haircutters give me a Colonial Haircut? You know, like Ben Franklin or something?

"I received an email suggestion that these "Stay on Track" sign sightings should be photographed."

Was the email from Marlys Mihok, school board member, amateur photographer, and child safety advocate?

Couldn't we just "claim" to be taking pictures of dress code violations?

Piscopo Brother on Penna

This REALLY upsets me….so much so that I have honestly thought about going in and questioning the reasoning behind the sign on his property. My family has gone to Piscopo’s for many years. I might have to re think where I take my car now….so very upsetting!

Adding these for future searches...

drove past A to Z Music and they now have a sign for both slates of candidates.

A to Z is back to just the "Stay on Track" sign, the opposition's sign was removed.

This strikes a bad chord with me. Maybe they should change their name to "A to A Music".

I heard Hellmann does their taxes and he pressured them to remove the sign for BECK, MILLER, JENKINS, AND STONEBURNER.

Yes, but a lot of people who don't support Hellmann and do support BECK, MILLER, JENKINS, AND STONEBURNER supply the revenue that goes into those taxes.

Think about it......

P.S. BECK, MILLER, JENKINS, AND STONEBURNER.

How REDICULOUS and PETTY... Photographing and blackballing/ boycotting businesses that support the "STAY ON TRACK" candidates, and display their campaign signs!

Get real! NO ONE "rejects your kids' education!"

The "STAY ON TRACK" candidates are working to find ways to deliver a quality education in a more cost-effective and efficient manner than had existed previously, and in a way that Morrisville residents can afford... and STILL STAY IN THEIR HOMES!!!
