I received this email earlier this week. Does anyone have any info?
I heard this morning that the mobile classroom project "finish date" has been moved from January 23 to February 20th now because of water in the holes where the put the cement foundations that the trailers will sit on! Have you heard of this from anyone else?

I have heard this too. And it makes sense -- if the ground is too wet it will take much longer for the cement to cure.
From my Jan 8 posting:
"I think Jan 23 is a very aggressive/unrealistic date. I'm betting on mid Feb."
It's those darn teacher in-service days that are causing the delay, isn't it? What, are they taking 23 in a row now?
This was all contingent upon insurance covering the costs, right? Are there any indications that the insurance $$$ is coming through, or not?
I cruised by Grandview today. I hope they look a lot better inside than outside. They were not impressive on the outside - I'd rate them a few notches below my former company's power plant construction project trailers.
I hope the Worobs and Schells of the world are filled with pride when they gaze out their windows or host friendly non-quorum gatherings in their Grandview Ave. abodes.
Also, won't the excavated ground and puddles contribute to radon poisoning and West Nile Virus? And could this construction be occurring on Federally-protected wetlands? Remember when Steve Worob was so concerned about wetlands in the Nolan Ave. company's parking lot that was being considered as a new school construction entrance? No? I do. I've got a good all-around memory, but it's extra-sharp when it comes to hypocrisy.
When I spoke to Ruffing on thurs (the 22nd) she did say there was a delay with the modulars -but- that the 5th grade is possibly still moving to the middle school on the 2nd. It is one big puzzle and they really are going day by day and yada, yada, yada. No open house scheduled for the 5th graders or the parents in the works to introduce them to the school, so we are either out of luck, or they don't know what's going on.
Heard at the agenda meeting the insurance company was willing to pay the district $1 million for replacing the heaters at Reiter.
I gotta assume $1M also includes the cost of the furnaces, chimney, cleanup and the *temporary* use of trailers. I highly doubt the furnace alone cost $1M. If I'm right, that would also mean we won't get the whole amount if we don't use it as the insurance dictates.
A semi update- we recieved a phone call just a few minutes ago informing us that there will be a meeting for just fifth grade parents on thurs the 29th at 6pm at the high school- an open house of sorts. Guess I will be spending most of my night at the high school that day.
P.S. They hired subsitute teachers to watch the classes while the teachers packed up the classrooms. I know of two parents, myself included who offered to help pack up- but nope- we had to pay. Insurance money?
