The board will be voting next Wednesday for the placement of an ad advertising a meeting for public comment on the closing of the elementary schools. To be fair, the plan may only include one school but Mr. Fitzpatrick said that if you can't name a specific one, you have to phrase it as your closing "the elementary schools". Stay tuned to see what actually gets voted on.

This advertisement must be submitted within no less than 15 days prior to the meeting. The board can then not take any action for 90 days after the meeting if I follow the timeline correctly as stated last night.

Who brought up the idea or was it just "on the list"?

Mr. Hellmann brought it up as an item he would like to see added to the agenda. Mrs. Reithmeyer asked what school. When the response was vague and lackluster Mr. Fitzpatrick mentioned his suggested wording.

Also there is an expected report from Vitetta on the condition of the elementary schools that the board has not received.

Mrs. Mihok said closing an elementary school was a suggestion from the CAP meetings and therefore it was "the will of the people". Both I and Kathy Panzitta countered that by saying a handful of people is not the will of the people and that it was suggested by the CAP committee the board hire someone to look into ALL factors of closing a school including the issue of busing if the remaining school is considered outside the walking area.

I encourage everyone to read the CAP meeting minutes. They are located under the "Community" header on the school district website.

The way that closing of an elementary school was worded in the minutes is:

"Committee recommends that the district keep at least one elementary and the middle-senior high school building."

It was worded this way because members said they did not want to see a K-12 facility. It doesn't say close a school. It says keep the schools open with at least one of them being an elementary school.
