I went this morning. The volunteer was on a cell phone break in the hallway, so I went directly to the staff member present.
I had to fill out the form provided. I mentioned that I was uncomfortable with having my driver's license number recorded and the form was processed without recording it. I provided my vehicle registration and sanitation tax bills in the open, and my mortgage bill in the original sealed envelope.
My wife went this morning - the final day. Smooth as silk, nary a volunteer in sight.
I've heard that another one of the volunteers is someone who referred to students as "perverts" at a public school board meeting. How's comforting it is to have someone like that able to see your personal information and maybe learn a few things about you and your children - all whilst hanging around inside the schools!
As we near the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and its disastrous effects on New Orleans - YOU'RE DOIN' A HECK OF A JOB, BROWNIE!***
*** Brownie being symbolic of the kind of incompetence and mismanagement you get when you put unqualified ideological cronies into positions of authority. People who, although they may talk a good game, are actually hell-bent on the destruction of the public entity they've been entrusted by the public to lead.
