It's a dance that everyone gets to participate in, but I ask why anyone would really bid on these jobs? Yes, I know, it's like the lottery (you cant win it unless you're in it) but why would I, as a somewhat respected and competent craftsman, bid on something with these yokels? The board freely and cluelessly meanders through the process, ignoring those who have actually done the hard work of planning a construction project AND shepherding it through the PlanCon process. Here they reject reality and replace it with their own rather unusual reality. Paging Adam Savage: The Emperor is calling.
But therein lies the answer: They will have many, many bids. Because as anyone knows, when a client has money to throw away and can afford to do the same job two or three times, it's always better to be there to be awarded the same work repeatedly. Without an overarching plan here to control spending, that is exactly what will happen.
Make sure you take note of the disjointed thinking patterns. The Emperor is aghast at the costs for special education students and wants to nickel and dime those costs. But when it comes to supporting the construction industry, it's belly up to the bar time!

I really can't blame the construction industry for bidding. Work is work, and a paycheck is a paycheck, and they can't be expected to know the twisted politics and misplaced priorities of the Morrisville School Board majority and its supporters and sympathizers.
The average citizen in town, let alone a prospective bidder, doesn't know that Hellmann & Co. deliberately ignored the proper process, commissioned a cursory study without consulting the board, voted to authorize this study AFTER it was already completed, and is now seeking bids on work recommended in the cursory study in the name of "safety", even though Superintendent Beth Yonson, Business Mgr. Reba Dunford, & Maintenance Supervisor Tim Lastichen all said this work was not safety-related. Oh, by "cursory study", I mean a $2,500 walkthrough in which nothing was opened-up, sampled, tested, calculated, audited, investigated, or, apparently, done.
And if I'm not mistaken, I thought Dr. Yonson, Mrs. Dunford, or both, said at a recent board meeting (Feb. 27, I think) that many of the items identified in the study had already been addressed. So maybe we will get a chance to pay for the same thing at least twice, just like the Doors at MR Reiter.
Also, since the board is ignoring the Pa. Dept. of Ed. PlanCon process, there will be NO reimbursing the district for money spent studies and/or work performed under the Hellmann/Mihok/Radosti/Heater/Worob process. Thannnnnnnnks!

Props to StS for the Adam Savage Easter Egg. A cool thing about my seven-year-old is that he's a huge Mythbusters fan (and not only because he gets extra tv because Mythbusters is learny) and "I reject your reality and substitute my own" is his favorite quote.
