Captain Algebra was RIGHT!!

I hereby offer a sincere apology to Captain Algebra. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he was right. Algebra is not something that high schoolers should be taught.

WASHINGTON - Joanne Tegethoff teaches algebra. Never mind that her students carry Disney princess and Thomas the Tank Engine backpacks and have the alphabet taped on their desks.

Tegethoff used to teach what she called "very boring math," using worksheets of addition and subtraction problems. Now her first graders delve into algebraic thinking. By the third grade, Viers Mill Elementary students in Silver Spring, Md., are solving equations with letters and variables.

Long a high-school staple, introductory algebra is becoming a standard course in middle school for college-bound students. That trend is putting new pressure on such schools as Viers Mill to insert the building blocks of algebra into math lessons in the earliest grades.

Yes, I must say I was shocked and alarmed that my son, a first grader at MR Reiter had homework that looked suspiciously like algebra! And he hasn't even finished adding and subtracting! What's next, time tables? My wife expressed her fear that she won't be able to help him with his homework much sooner than she expected! We are in danger of creating a generation of super geniuses here, people! Who will protect us if they choose to use this power for EVIL!

7 school board members leave Morrisville for Orlando, Florida traveling at an average speed of 400 miles per hour. If Orlando is 1,000 miles from Morrisville, how much will the trip cost?

This is one of those trick questions, right? There is no airport in Morrisville, so it has to be Philly.

William Shatner says: nonstops for seven are approx $250 round trip, for a grand total of $1750. Economizing Morrisville school board members can contact Enterprise and they will provide a van for 10 days for 7 passengers for $560 total. Car sickness bags optional.

Add an overnight stay at South of the Border in both directions and a few nights in Orlando with two rooms only (guys room and girls room)and this can be a real savings for the district!

I don't want to sound morbid, but what happens if the plane, with all seven of them on it, crashes in the Everglades? Where will they bury the survivors?

You bring up a good point. Perhaps one of the members who has a PBA card could do the driving...
